Baristas all over the world are disgruntled. Let’s take a moment and admire their ‘Badassery.’ Because where would we be without them, really? Just remember not to stare too long because some of them are so over it, a.k.a. disgruntled.
This painting is of an old co-worker and friend of mine. He was rather upset about creating such beautiful latte art for some undeserving folks.
I like to call certain works of art I create “Scenescapes”. These are works which try to capture people existing and interacting in their relevant scenes: portraits which relate persons to places and situations. I like this kind of portraiture because it combines a candid glimpse of someone with a suggestion of the culture that person belongs to, or perhaps has stumbled into. I find I can cover a lot of thematic ground with this kind of work. My work is informed by my interest in how humans interact with their scenes.
‘Last Thursdays’ on Alberta Street in Portland, Oregon was a mess of weirdo creatives that resembled a circus on some blocks. Other blocks tended to be more reserved; ‘hobbyists’ we more ‘professional’ artists would call these reserved folk with their incredible massive tent set ups with basic pottery pieces. My group of drunkard artists on the other hand; sat on curbs with our paintings and drawings. We would sneer at the yuppies with their money and tidy display shelves. We would station ourselves outside of the whiskey bar and as the long day turned into night we’d get more belligerent and yell at the passers by who would rather watch the Acro Yoga performers than admire our meaningful art work. They didn’t care. This Art Fair still exists but I fear those ‘hobbysts’ took it over long ago. This is a painting of my very last Last Thursday: no art in sight just some kids going home.
These are a collection of landscapes and portrait paintings of New England.
I spent some time in Tucson AZ, where I made friends with some cacti and beautiful desert scenes.
